Tour de Cure 2012

by Mike on December 3, 2011

It’s time to start getting ready for the Tour de Cure 2012.

We’re renewing our commitment to complete the 2012 Tour de Cure and to raise more money for the American Diabetes Association than we did last year!

Tour de Cure 2012

Last year, Melana and I both finished the 2011 Tour de Cure – the full 100 miles – read about it here: 2011 Tour de Cure – Done!

Click on the tabs at the top to read more about myself and Melana and our reasons for riding.  We both ride for specific family and friends, and while we don’t name names – they are our heroes.

2011 Tour de Cure – 100 Miles Done

by Mike on June 6, 2011

Tour de Cure 2011 Finish

Mike & Melana back in Reston after 100 Miles

We did it!  We finished the entire 100 mile Tour de Cure 2011 route.

8 hours and 20 minutes – a personal best for us on a Century ride.

Of course it’s the only Century ride Melana and I have ridden together.   So, I guess just finishing was a personal best too.  However, we were targeting between 9 and 10 hours to complete the ride, so we’re very happy with the results.

The Tour de Cure organization and volunteer staff were excellent – SAG service, rest stops, water stations, volunteers cheering along the way.

You can still donate to this year’s event – and help support the American Diabetes Association – until July 1st, 2011.  Just click one of the links below:

Capital Area Red Riders – our team – did an outstanding job too.  Over 50 members strong and growing.  Our team broke the fundraising record for the National Capital Tour de Cure by raising over $35,000 … and counting.

Sabrina, one of our teammates, provided this photo.  It’s most of the team that participated in the Tour de Cure this year … except for the Century riders.  Melana and I and the other 10 or so that rode 100 miles were still on the road.

Thanks to everyone who supported us and our team this year.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

A special thank you to Kamal and Sandy – our teammates and the strong riders who paced us all the way to Purcellville, the first leg of our ride this year.

Mary – thanks for the perfect weather, just like you promised.  You must have some real pull with a higher power.  I can tell you that overcast skies never looked so beautiful!

Body by Vi Nutrition for Diabetics

by Mike on May 19, 2011

One of the daily struggles for diabetics is how to get enough balanced nutrition without spiking sugar levels. And one of the questions I get asked a lot is “Is Body by Vi for people with Diabetes?”

My short answer is YES – many people with diabetes are getting great results with Body by Vi.

My friend Mark Reed just told me that Vi-Shape shakes are the only way he has found to ‘get enough balanced nutrition’ and still keep his blood sugar in check.  Mark has his own remarkable story – watch for a link as soon as he gets it up on his blog.

Watch this short video – Barb’s story about getting off insulin:

That will bring tears to your eyes, especially if you have diabetes yourself, or know someone who does.

Recently I have been watching my own nutrition in a lot more detail – and I use Body by Vi products during training for the Tour de Cure 2011.

I’m not a diabetic, but family members are, and I personally have several risk factors.  I work hard to reduce the risk factors I can control – like diet and exercise – it’s my ownBody by Vi Story.
